Mozilla released an update for Thunderbird the 24.0.x branch on November 19th, 2013. Thunderbird 24.1.1 addressed an issue with Windows users receiving a UAC prompt when attempting to update Thunderbird using the Background Update service. See bug 926975 for more information. Depending on update settings, users should automatically be prompted to update to Thunderbird 24.1.1 or may do so manually via Help > About Thunderbird or downloading and installing via the getthunderbird.com site.

Finally after years of being held hostage by Macromedia/Adobe’s Flash Plugin, Firefox will no longer be dependent on this annoying and often times mischievous plugin to display Flash type content come Firefox 27 in early 2014. Over the weekend Microsoft had posted to their Windows Phone YouTube channel a video entitled: A fly on the wall in Cupertino? The video was about the (colorful) upcoming iPhone 5C. Seems the video did not go over well with social media, so Microsoft yanked it of their YouTube channel, but not before someone else had a chance to mirror the video. Searches in the Firefox in browser Add-ons Manager (Tools > Add-ons) will no longer return results for add-ons which are experimental or not “Fully Reviewed”. Fully reviewed add-ons meet all of our quality standards, while preliminarily [sic] reviewed add-ons only have to meet a lower standard, focused mostly on security and privacy. While Mozilla did make the reviews levels clear on the AMO site, the in browser add-ons manager did not show a distinction between Fully Reviewed and Experimental add-ons.
