One feature Mozilla, seems to have conveniently left out of the release notes for Firefox 43 is add-on/extension signing is now active and being enforced. Users can no longer install unsigned add-ons and there is no longer a mechanism to override this. Mozilla claims “(add-on signing) will make the block-list and other malware prevention measures more effective.”

Mozilla has released a minor update to the current Firefox 43 branch with Firefox 43.0.1 on December 18th. This is part 1 of 2 for the fix of Bug 1079858. This bug has to do with Microsoft deprecating the use of the SHA1 Authenicode signatures for Windows singing on January 1st, 2016. Mozilla is moving to use SHA2 signature algorithms and the purpose of this patch is to simply inform the updater and maintenance service of the new SHA2 certificate issuer. Back on December 7th, 2004, Mozilla announced the ‘birth’ of Thunderbird: MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – December 7, 2004 – The Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving choice and promoting innovation on the Internet, today announced the worldwide availability of the Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 email client. Thunderbird focuses on new features and settings to help stop spam and prevent viruses, the two biggest problems facing email users today. Mozilla Thunderbird follows last month’s highly successful release of Mozilla Firefox 1.0 that has been downloaded by over nine million users.
Note: While this post mostly pertains to Mozilla’s other project, Thunderbird I still felt it was important to post this here as to remind people that while Thunderbird is very different from Firefox, they are still both ‘interconnected’ within the Mozilla Foundation in regards to technical resources. Mitchel Baker, Chair of the Mozilla Foundation has posted an update on her blog about Thunderbird. She assures us that Mozilla is not ‘dropping’ Thunderbird. But, at the same time it is no longer effective for Thunderbird and Firefox to share the same technical infrastructure. Firefox and Thunderbird have diverging needs. Firefox needs to move at the speed…
Firefox needs to move at the speed of the Web, and needs to bring the things we love about the Web into the world of mobile, social, data and the cloud. That’s a fiercely competitive setting with high consequences. We need to be laser-focused if we want to move these parts of online…
There are some indications that Apple APL 0,05 +0,00 +4,55% in an attempt to make the new iPhone the thinnest ever (shaving off about another 1 mm) they are removing the headphone (TRS) jack. To compensate users for this radical (and stupid) change Apple will be including a pair of EarPods which use the (proprietary) Lightning connector. You can still use TRS connector headphone and earbuds, if you purchase a Lightning adapter. Now, it is important to understand that this not yet been confirmed by Apple. Also if this does happen with the iPhone 7, it would have no effect on Bluetooth Headsets/Earbuds….
It appears Yahoo! YHOO 52,58 0,00 0,00% was trying to get users to not use AdBlock by denying them access to their email account if they were using Ad Blocking software. Yahoo’s limited experiment last week did not go very well as indicated by some of these tweets: “‘Please disable ad blocker to continue using Yahoo Mail’ — how about no,” said Twitter user @RunLikeDeer. “Do you want me to stop using Yahoo Mail?? ‘Cause this is a good start.” “So @YahooMail has blocked my inbox for using an ad locker,” tweeted @Trenti. “It was a good run, I guess….

Thunderbird 38.4.0 was suppose to be released in early November. Here we are at almost the end of November and still no Thunderbird 38.4.0 release. Reviewing the Status Meeting Notes from the November 17th meeting this build is still ‘in progress’. Also been following the Build Notes for Thunderbird 38.4.0 which currently shows they are the third build (attempt) at releasing Thunderbird 38.4.0, but still running into issues. The next status meeting will be on November 30th and hopefully will provide some insight if there is going to be a 38.4.0 release or wait until mid December 2015 to release…
